Spotify
Music for background and focus
freemiumMedia
Desktop Spotify: the same playlists and podcasts, plus global media keys, queue management, and quality without browser compromises. Doubles as a remote for playback on other devices. The free tier includes ads.
// Install
Your MacHomebrew in /opt/homebrew
brew install --cask spotify// What it is for
- A catalogue that answers almost any request, plus algorithmic mixes that match a working mood
- One queue across Mac, phone, and speaker — switching devices does not interrupt the track
- Collaborative playlists for a team and podcasts in the same app
- The client is keyboard-driven and honours the Mac media keys out of the box
// Common questions
Is the app resource-hungry?
It is an Electron client: a few hundred megabytes of memory in the background is normal. On a weak machine the web player is sometimes lighter.
Do I need a subscription?
The free tier works with ads and skip limits. A subscription removes both and adds offline listening.
